sam: hey, uh.. q? can we talk for a second?
quinn: [she hesitates for a moment, then takes a small step forward.] whatever, evans, make it quick.
sam: okaaaay… um. i just wanted to say that i’m here for you if you ever want to talk about what’s bothering you… even though we broke up, ‘cause you’re still one of my best friends… and i know you’re going through a hard time right now, and i don’t know what it is that’s making you do this but don’t let it get to you, okay? i hate seeing you so sad. you don’t deserve it. and i just.. this phase that you’re going through will pass. you’re the strongest person i know, q.
quinn: [she swallows thickly, licking her lips and shifting her weight a little.]
sam: [he stuffs his hands in his pockets] and i guess what i’m trying to say is that.. i believe in you. i know you can get through this. i’m not going to ask you to come back to glee club even though i think you really should, ‘cause that’s your decision, but we need you and… and you need us. i just wanted you to know that. [he shrugs a little before turning on his heel to leave]
quinn: [she waits a few moments, watching as he walks off before finally piping up, her voice quiet.] …sam?
sam: [he turns] yeah, q?
quinn: [she glances up at him, the hints of a smile playing out on the corner of her lips though she doesn’t smile completely.] did your hair get blonder over the summer?
sam: [he smiles at her, not because he thinks he’s gotten through to her completely, but because he can see that she’s fighting off a smile and he could have sworn that he’d seen a little flash of hope in her eyes at his words. he doesn’t say anything, instead just shoots her that signature half smirk of his before turning back around to head back to class.]
